First edition of this important treatiese on the glaciology of the Swiss Rhone valley. Johann Georg Friedrich von Charpentier (1786-1855) was born in Freiberg (Saxony) and became director of the Bex salines in 1813. The plates show erratic blocks with their names and a view of the Rhone Glacier at the end of the Rhone valley. – Some minor foxing. Owner’s stamp on flyleaf. Clean in all. – Best.-Nr. 27392
