First French edition, translated from the English by Felix Vogeli. Account of a journey through Brazil by the naturalist Jean Louis Rodolphe Agassiz (1807–1873) and his wife Elizabeth Cabot Cary Agassiz (1822–1907). Due to his bad health, Louis Agassiz was advised to stay in a warmer climate and therefore, the couple travelled around Brazil from 1865 to 1866. They visited Rio de Janiero, Pará, Manaos, Teffé, Mauhés and Céará, the maps show the Gulf-Stream, the Amazon River, North and South America.
