Elise Voïart was born as Anne-Elisabeth-Elise Petitpain in 1786. At the age of 20, she married the 30 years older Jacques-Philippe Voïart, who already had two daughters, one of them being Amable Tastu (1795-1885), co-editor of this collection of fairy tales together with her stepmother.
