Second edition published by Maire. Vegetius main work contains chapters on the education of soldiers, military history, strategy and sieges. The text was edited by Petrus Scriverius (1576–1660), a Dutch historian and philologist. From the library of Dr. Leo Bloch (1864–1920) with his bookplate designed by „C.L.“ (i. e. Carl Ludwig Hoppe, 1865–1941). Bloch was an archaeologist and philologist, after his studies in Leipzig he teached at the Univeristy of Zurich from 1895 to 1906.
