Revised French edition of the „Satyricon“ by the Roman Senator Titus Petronius (14–66 A.D.). Translator is François Nodot (1650–1710), who’s letter to M. Charpentier, director of the French Academy, is published at the beginning of vol. I. Nodot’s new translation, based on a new source text found in Belgrade in 1688, was published for the first time in Paris in 1693. A later edition of Nodot’s translation is known with the imprint Cologne (i.e. Amsterdam), 1694, while the present one from 1698 is declared on its title to be revised and enlarged. At the end of vol. II there is the „Réponse aux observations sur les fragmens de Pétrone [...] à Monsieur B(ruguières)“ (by Nodot?). The emblematic title vignette „Nodi solvuntur a nodo“ is probably a hommage to the translator Nodot. – Outer front hinge of vol. I split but still firm. Clean copy. – Best.-Nr. 23558
