Third edition of Angelo Carletti’s (1411-1495) „Summa“, called „angelica“ according to his first name. The first edition was printed in the year before in Angelo’s native town Chivasso in Piedmont. Angelo, originating from a noble family, entered the Order of Friars Minor at the age of 30. His „Summa de casibus conscientiae“ is a dicitonary of moral theology containing 659 terms who are arranged in alphabetical order. Up to the year 1520, the „Summa“ was published in more than thirty editions. Considered as a statement of Catholic orthodoxy, Angelo’s „Summa“ was banned by Martin Luther as „mehr als teuflisch“ and burned on a public place in Wittenberg in 1520. – Hain/C. 5583; GW 1925; Goff A-715; BMC V, 335. – Old library stamp on first leaf in front. First Latin edition of of Saint Catherine’s of Siena (1347–1380) main spiritual work, the “Book of the Divine Doctrine” (“Libro della divina dottrina“), dictated in 1377 and divided in six „tractatus“. The Latin version goes back to the Dominican Raimundus Capuanus (de Vineis, 1330-1399) and was edited here by Marcus Civilis from Brescia. The edition contains as well a selection of 22 „orationes” by Catherine, also in Latin translation and is concluded by an epistle about Catherine and a poem in praise of the Saint, both by Pope Pius II (i.e. Enea Silvio Piccolomini). – Bound in a sixteenth-century binding from the studio of Jakob Krause and Caspar Meuser with the arms of the Duke Elector Christian I of Saxony and his wife Sofie of Brandenburg. Later provenenca from the Indersdorf Augustiner Chorherrenstift with ms. entry “FF.
